Michelle from Schoolreaders has contacted the church:
Schoolreaders is a charity that finds local people who are able to visit a local primary school for an hour or two a week to listen to children read individually and help to improve their reading and comprehension skills. Reading for pleasure is currently the most significant factor in improving a child's access to secondary education and their life chances beyond, and our volunteers help with to encourage this as well by giving the children more confidence with their reading.
As I mentioned, our volunteers visit their school weekly for an hour or two in term time (holidays can be taken during the school year). They need to have good written and spoken English but they do not need any other skills or prior experience. They will also need to have a DBS check carried out but this is done by the school and is at no cost to the volunteer.
We are currently looking for more volunteers in Telford and I would really appreciate it if you were able to share some information about volunteering with Schoolreaders with the members of your church community? I have attached a couple of e-flyers in case you are able to share in a newsletter but could send some hard copies in the post if they would be more use? More information about the charity and volunteering with us can be found on our website
