Bank Top Café

Every Friday at 12 the Bank Top Café serves up a 2 course hot lunch to around 30 people from the local community.  It's not just a free lunch, the café offers friendship, conversation and respite from loneliness and isolation.

The café was set up in 2013 as a joint initiative between the Dawley Bank Group and Dawley Baptist Church. It is now run by volunteers from both the church and the local community.  We aim to provide a safe and friendly environment for those who live on the Bank, enabling them to meet each Friday to enjoy a simple, yet nutritious lunch. We host a monthly prize bingo session and a monthly quiz, and also organize trips and special events. All are welcome to join us every Friday between 11.30am and 2pm.  The meal is provided free of charge with an opportunity to donate towards ongoing costs if people are able.  Transport is available for those with mobility issues - please contact us.

During the 3 covid-19 lockdowns when we couldn't meet together for meals we set up a delivery service, delivering a hot meal to about 25 of our regulars who live in Central Telford and wanted to receive a meal.  We cooked and delivered hundreds of meals thanks to a huge army of volunteers, all working socially distanced and playing their part to relieve the loneliness that was such a big issue during the lockdowns.

We were part of the Fareshare food scheme, receiving leftover groceries from supermarkets every week.  Enabling us to have a varies assortment of food each week, available for those who really need help in making ends meet.
